Out of the Egg
The life of a spider
starts as an egg. It brakes out of the egg membrane while still in
the cocoon and makes its way into the world looking
very similar to its parents. There are no stages of larvae, pupa,
imago.
The spiderlings first move from home can be by flying away on a gossamer
thread. This is achieved by climbing up a grass stalk or high point
where there is a light breeze, it lets out a silk thread until long enough
to lift it up and then away it goes. This could be a few meters or many
miles. The spiderling has made use of silk for the first time. It
will use silk in making its home and web, capturing and wrapping
up its prey, reproduction and wrapping up its eggs in a cocoon. It
also lets out a thin lifeline of silk where ever it goes.
