Norfolk Spider Group |
Life as a Spider
All creatures including
the spider have to protect themselves, feed and reproduce.
It is the way they do this that is the fascination. Spiders as a
group are voracious predators and are bound together by a unique
life style that involves the use of silk.
There are two main strategies one which is known to all is the web
builder the other lesser known is the hunter, one static and one
mobile.
Reproduction and mating has often been associated with the female eating
the male. This is exaggerated as some species can live briefly together
in harmony. The task of the male is dependent on showing the female
he is not food. The female spider has two main desires food and sex.
Food is the most important and the male spiders use many fascinating
ways of indicating they are not on the menu.
